A see-through pink jelly koala on a wooden table, surrounded by colourful jelly pods, with a snack counter and a Bounce & Munch button

What it is like

A see-through jelly koala sits on a wooden table with a ring of colourful jelly pods around it. Every letter, number and arrow key, every tap on the screen and the big Bounce & Munch button send a pod flying into its mouth with a hop and a squelch, a counter keeps track, and every fifth snack brings a little jelly party. Children who want more can pull the koala to stretch and throw it (it wobbles back into shape), walk it about with the arrow keys and hop with the space bar, and a grown-up can drag the table to spin the view. A picker changes the jelly flavour, and there are mute, fullscreen and start-fresh buttons. It is free, with no ads, accounts or tracking, and loads nothing from outside kidsmashgames.com. It needs a browser with WebGPU (current Chrome, Edge and Safari); older browsers and devices get a friendly card instead of the game.

What we liked

  • Every key press and every tap feeds the koala, so a keyboard smash always does something
  • A wobbly, see-through jelly that stretches, throws and bounces back, which toddlers find funny
  • No timers, lives, scores to lose or game-over screen
  • Mute, fullscreen, jelly flavour and start-fresh buttons for a grown-up
  • No ads, accounts, analytics or purchases, and nothing loaded from other sites

What to know

  • Needs a WebGPU browser: older browsers and devices show a "little hiccup" card instead of the game
  • A heavy 3D scene, about 11 MB to load and hard work for an older phone or laptop
  • No parent lock: fullscreen does not block browser or system shortcuts

Verdict

Our keyboard smash game: a jelly koala that eats whatever the smashing sends its way. Free, ad-free and ours.

Best for: A laptop keyboard smash with a koala payoff, or tablet tapping with a grown-up nearby.
